EVENTS IN LOMBARDY: THE BIG DRAW, THE FESTIVAL OF DESIGN IN MILAN
The fourth edition of the Festival of Design is going to take place this year in Milan at Castello Sforzesco during the days 14th and 15th of September 2019, while in the rest of Italy from the 16th of September until the 20th of October 2019.
The Big Draw is a charitable English institution that promotes every year a campaign for the design as universal learning and expression language. Fabriano supports this initiative bringing the event to Italy: isn’i it amazing?
We went last year with Giada (The Big Draw 2018) who, loving art to madness, had a lot of fun in every laboratory she tasted: many are at the open air and are in fixed points of the castle all day, usually at the entrance or in the inner court, like for example these ones I show you below:
The “wall of colours”, a maxi disegn to color all together to experience the relax through colouring;
The “water designs” that Giada simply adored: three very simple ingredients like water, paper and ink, combined together according to a Japanese technique called “Suminagashi” to create particular, unpredictable and full of colours art works!
“Leonardo’s hand”: it’s a very challenging experiment that invites you to try to write like Leonardo, that is back ti front!
Last year there were also very simple laboratories such as the ” dark room”, or the possibility to paint some brooches to take home as a memory. There are many other that I can’t remember at the moment!
EVENTS IN LOMBARDY THE BIG DRAW
Inside there were other kinds of laboratories that, like the ones I’ve shown you above, are absolutely free; the difference is that these last ones had scheduled times and there’s the presence of the artist you choose. The entrance has a limited number and has to be booked (not more than two laboratories per person) unfortunately only at the Info Point, at the entrance of the castle; you can’t book it in advance from home. So it can happen that the laboratory you’ve chosen is already full: the only way you have to try to have what you want, is to arrive before 10.00 a.m when it opens, even if this is not a security!
Giada would want to do a certain laboratory that was already full; she chose another one that in the end turned out to be really interesting!
Her laboratory was about Pop-Up art, in details the aim was to create a Pop-Up lamp. The artist, who held the laboratory, was Dario Cestaro, defined a paper engineer: he even created books and 3D toys for prestigious brands like Mattel, Fisher Price, etc.. He is moreover Professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice where teaches ” Paper Technology”.
This laboratory took a little more than a hour but Giada was excited because she never did anything like that: she learnt new techniques and new ways to work with paper to create HER Pop-Up lamp, according to the creativity of the moment. Still nowadays that lamp is in the sitting room with great pride for Giada 😀
And in the end, not simply The Big Draw: thanks to this event Giada also pretended to be a model, getting over her akward 😀
The official photogarpher asks the permission to take photos to the guys and to publish them on newspapers or magazines that promote the event: you need to sign the permission.

THE MEANING OF TRAVEL FOR ME
In the last years I follow what Dalai Lama says:” At least once a year go to a place you’ve never been before”.
After years of sufferings and sacrifices, I’ve decided that life is too short and too unpredictable to continue waiting to do what I like and what makes me happy.
I like exploring the world where I live, take photos of it in general but also in its details, film it to hold back those subtle emotions that you could forget over time, and in the end share with you what I’ve seen and felt through my articles.
Travel is for me Love – Freedom – Gratitude
