UNUSUAL OTRANTO: unmissable bauxite lake and Punta Palascia lighthouse

BAUXITE LAKE

At about 2.5 km from Otranto there is the famous “bauxite lake”: a place surrounded by nature with amazing colours and by bright red rocks; a small “Ayers Rock” in Salento.
Sure, the comparison is a bit excessive, but colours are very similar: the green of the lake joins with the red of the rocks dug by rain.
You should go during a sunny day to enjoy this lovely place and to see very bright colours. Anyway if you are in otranto you couldn’t give this opportunity up; personally very very satisfied..!!!

If you have time and it’s summer, you could reach “Baia dell’Orte”, where you’ll find a great landscape with her crystal clear water where you could bath, and wiod nature; all around, only silence.!! No tourist accomodations.

**How to reach the little lake and then Baia dell’Orte: from Otranto harbour walk or drive south; pass the roundabout and take a little country road where you are obliged to go just on foot.

**The visit to the lake only tahes about two hours; if you go until Baia dell’Orte and you swim once there, at least half a day.

Here below I’ll leave you some images of the little bauxite lake that don’t need too much words or explanations; if like me you are a lover of the meditation, the lake is the ideal place, above all because it seems that people ignore the existance of such a paradise on earth!

PUNTA PALASCIA LIGHTHOUSE

Always from Otranto, 10 minutes by car, you can reach the lighthouse of Punta Palascia or Capo d’Otranto. I saw it before a heavy storm with the sky full of black clouds in a magical and spectral athmosphere.
From the car park to the lighthouse there’s a little path (10 minutes walking down).

My advise is to avoid to go into because inside there isn’t anything so interesting to see and the guide explained only three concepts.

The only nice thing is to reach the terrace, but 4 Euro is too much for what they offer you. So go down, take photos, admire it but stop at this point.

THE MEANING OF TRAVEL FOR ME

In the last years I follow what Dalai Lama says:” At least once a year go to a place you’ve never been before”.

After years of sufferings and sacrifices, I’ve decided that life is too short and too unpredictable to continue waiting to do what I like and what makes me happy.

I like exploring the world where I live, take photos of it in general but also in its details, film it to hold back those subtle emotions that you could forget over time, and in the end share with you what I’ve seen and felt through my articles.

Travel is for me Love – Freedom – Gratitude
